mona lisa - leonardo da vinciLeonardo Studio Found - (News submitted by Regina)
Experts believe they have discovered the a studio of the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci in the monastery of Santissima Annunziata in the centre of Florence. It’s believed to be the studio where Leonardo met Mona Lisa, but nothing seems to be verified or proven at the moment. “We need to do more research, but these frescoes are very encouraging” said one of the researchers.

The objective of art is to give life a shape and though artists cannot change the world they can, through their work, give flight to imagination, they can give you the direction.” Salima Hashmi

salvador dali movieIt has been reported that Al Pacino will play the role of Salvador Dali in an upcoming film called “Dali & I: The Surreal Story”. Andrew Niccol will direct the Dali movie and filming is set to start in June this year.

I just don’t see it working, but I’m skeptical about most movies about artists. The Modigliani movie was fine, Frida was OK too, but my favorite art movie is still Basquiat by the artist Julian Schnabel. Perhaps being an artist is the secret to making a good movie about artists? Movie makers have a habit of exaggerating the life of artists to create unbelievable characters.

peter paul rubens on iceForty ice sculptors have come together in Antwerp to celebrate the famous Flemish artist, and celebrated son of Belgium.. Peter Paul Rubens. I tried to find some more images of the exhibition online as I saw it on television and was impressed, but couldn’t find much.
I don’t think I could commit so much time and energy into making a work of art that returns to water in a few days. I’m more into the permanence of oils, wood, or stone. How does an ice sculptor have a retrospective after a life of work?
“All artists are vain, they long to be recognized and to leave something to posterity.” - Francis Bacon
